In lenya 1.2.3 on linux behind jboss behind apache I have a publication with a document where I have set the 'visibility in navigation' setting to hidden in the Site / Overview pane. The document is not listed in the left hand menu (yay!) in the live site but it does still have a tab in the horizontal tab menu.
