Take a look at the .../default/publication-sitemap.xmap (1.2.X) or
.../default/sitemap.xmap (1.4)
What's about "cleaning the cache (or what ever necessary) with
tomcat/manager?
in productive environments with heavy load it's very useful.
Why don't we just DISABLE it by default instead of removing it.
