So basically that means so long as I establish a 'document definition', include
it in the doctypes, create a document by my own means(previous post 'q. about
tasks, new documents, and a whole lot more') I should be ok?
How do I go about initialising the workflow history etc?

Read "How to add a Custom ResourceType":

Yes .. but that is assuming that you are using the default create usecase isn't
it? The default create usecase sometime down the track calls an 'init-history'
task (if I am not mistaken, def found in yourpub/config/tasks/targets.xml).
What does this do? And how important is it to do for the maintenance of the
document? I am just scared that by creating my own document (and I mean by
other means than the default create usecase) I will not be able to schedule
tasks/custom workflow for it.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Vica
