Greetings Suresh and Dirk, The problem was indeed my use of jdk1.5.0_05. I switched to j2sdk1.4.2_10 and Lenya seems to work fine now.
Regarding why I don't just use the Lenya binary, I'm trying to learn Subversion, Ant, Java, XML, XSL, Cocoon, Lenya, and Content Management (all at the same time), just to make my life more interesting ;-) Thank you both very much for you help.
