I had a similar problem with Lenya 1.2.4. I found that I had to create
two directories ("logs" and "logs/tasks") for each subdirectory of
/lenya/lenya/pubs.

The behavior of my build might be a little different - I built lenya
from source using cocoon 2.1.9. To do that, I had to copy
excalibur-io-1.1.jar from the 2.1.7 sources into 2.1.9's /lib/core and
/build/webapp/WEB-INF/lib directories.

Even after all that, I still had some trouble using lenya. I'm going
to try building again with the recommended cocoon 2.1.7 sources. I bet
I'll still have to create the "logs" and "logs/tasks" directories,
though. They just seem to be missing from the default pub.
