What's the best version of tomcat to use with Lenya 2.0?

Thanks!

Hmmmm... Just noticed that Lenya 2.0's install documentation says that hanging Lenya 2.0 off of tomcat hasn't been tested much (the doc in the tar archive - I didn't notice it in the install doc on the website).

I think the problem is that most developers are using Jetty to test with, because it's the default setting when using "lenya.sh"

Right now, we're using tomcat.

me too, but that's a different story

Also, the doc in the tar archive says to use tomcat 5.5.20 or later, while the doc on the Lenya web site says to use 5.0.28. ? The file is INSTALL-SRC.txt and the URL in question is http://lenya.apache.org/
docs/2_0_x/installation/source_version.html

I would say that 5.5.20 is prefereed, but actually it shouldn't matter

Aside from the relative-untestedness of hanging Lenya 2.0 off of Tomcat, are there other pluses or minuses to using a standalone (built in jetty) or tomcat configuration of Lenya 2.0?

I don't think this should matter as well re Lenya, but it's rather a decision what does your specific app-server offer to you and one should be able to choose from Tomcat (JBoss, WebSphere), Jetty, WebLogic, etc and Lenya shouldn't dictate this choice, whereas I remember that we had trouble getting it to run with WebLogic, because of endorsed libs and stuff like this, but this was for Lenya 1.x

Also, this is to become a very-production Lenya install. Should I be worried that this is still 2.0 and not 2.0.x? Often "dot oh" releases are a little more buggy than their minor release counterparts.

I would say that this true for most software which doesn't follow a clear continuous integration approach re interfaces and it's implementations, whereas I would argue it's always a risk on the interface/implementation level even if the overall project is using continuous integration, whereas of course it depends how well one can do test cases or test cases actually exist.

Having said that, AFAIK 2.0.1 isn't far away (please see the Yanel development list)

I don't mean to sound skittish about Lenya 2.0. I just need to know what I'm getting into so we can plan accordingly.

I would suggest do write down your "custom" acceptance tests as detailed as posible and go through them step by step for Lenya (and other possible solutions) and keep using them in order to be able to reproduce the functionality of your requirements.

Michael

Thanks much!
