Hi all!

I'm a bit of a newbie with Cocoon and Lenya, but I have been eying the
project for a long time. I'm very interested in experimenting with the
project to see if it can help us on several ongoing projects as well as
using for my personal needs.

Last week, I downloaded Lenya 2.0 and installed it on my laptop with
little trouble (Ubuntu 7.04). I created a publication and started
playing around. I wanted to show my boss what we could do, so I
attempted to install Lenya on our server. We're running Tomcat 5.5.25. I
have Lenya running, but I cannot setup or edit any publications,
including the default. If I login for authoring and try to install
example content I get an error saying to contact the system
administrator. If I try to create my own page, I get a
java.lang.NullPointerException.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a permissions problem on the underlying OS files. Check to ensure that the user tomcat/apache is running under has write access to the files/directories (where the Lenya webapp/content is installed).

I am not sure the specific file/directories (that require write access), as it has been a few days since I had the same issue myself, but I am sure someone else will take it from here.

Let me know if the file permissions seem to be ok...

Guess I should catch up on the thread before attempting to answer... :|

Seems that Andreas already figured it out and posted a response. Apologies for potential confusion.
