Another javascript based tool, which is very new, is D3 (Data Driven Documents).
D3 is built by the same guys who came up with Protovis a couple of years ago. [ http://vis.stanford.edu/protovis/ ] Protovis was much more limited in terms of flexible data inputs and scalability to large data sets. The only caveat, is that D3, like Protovis, generates SVG's. This means that you may have to jump through some tricky hoops to get it to work in legacy Internet Explorer browsers. (IE9 is ok.) Here is their forced layout: http://mbostock.github.com/d3/ex/force.html Since it is hot off the presses, the D3 documentation and example sets are still evolving daily. I think it is worth watching.
