[Neo4j] million of nodes, max degree of a node

Hello,
I am wondering when the people are talking about millions of nodes in their 
graph database. Are they storing the nodes using the following programming code
Node user = graphDb.createNode(); 
??
 
I can't imagine it!!!
 
One more thing, is there any algorithm which shows the node that has the 
maximum of edges ??
