It searches trough the local index. The index includes a snapshot of ibiblio repository at the plugin release time + index of you local repository. So, the only "search location" you can "add" is your local repository. Note that index for local repository is updated incrementally when plugin downloads jars from any remote repositories or you can force reindexing of local repository from Eclipse preferences.

We are planning to provide incremental index updates for arbitrary remote repositories in the future releases. It will require some Maven support and tooling outside of Eclipse plugin.

I'm wondering where the dependency list dialog searches when you type
something in. It has a lot of JARs but not all of the ones I need.
Also, can I add search locations to that dialog, or am I stuck with those
defaults (which in some cases only contain outdated versions of those JARs).
