I guess my question didn't motivate a lot of people :-). I'll try to rephrase it then: where does M2E take its default values/configuration from? Is it hard-coded or does it first try to retrieve it somewhere?

We all share a common "eclipse" directory that also contains the configuration directory. It would be great if we could for example store some properties file that would define default values for M2Eclipse configuration (in window/preferences). For example, at the moment, for each new workspace, we don't have to reconfigure our corporate proxy configuration since we all have the same eclipse\configuration\.settings\org.eclipse.core.net.prefs file.
