 Can you please be more specific about "major difficulties".

For the most part, m2eclipse delegates checkout from svn to available svn client in Eclipse, e.g. Subclipse, Subversive or command line svn command. From your description it is unclear if you are using one of Subclipse plugins or if you managed to make Tortoise a default command line svn client.
