[m2eclipse-user] Maven templates

There's a section in Eclipse's Maven preferences called Templates.  
"Maven: The Definitive Guide" doesn't mention this section. I believe  
it may be used in part by the Maven POM File wizard, but there are  
other templates in the section that don't seem to be used anywhere.  
Where can I find more information about these templates and how they  
are used?
