[m2eclipse-user] Nexus maven repository index per workspace?

Is nexus-maven-repository-index.zip being downloaded/updated per workspace?
It seems to me it is so. Wouldn't it be better to have workspaces share
single one in e.g. "%USER_HOME%/.m2/.index" directory? Btw, I'm using maven
2.0.9 and m2eclipse 0.9.6.
