Yes, look at the code in package org.apache.mahout.cf.taste.hadoop.item. The RecommenderJob class there runs a series of MapReduces which implement a recommender system. It is not that simple to understand, but, is not terribly difficult. If you want an example it should help a lot.
I'll also plug the book "Mahout in Action" which spends a whole chapter explaining this code.
