Yes!  The online lectures and course notes for Stanford 229 are very good.
Mike Bowles teaches classes from those materials at the Hacker Dojo here in
SIlicon Valley. They go straight into the weeds and I barely kept up with
the greek letters. The written materials are very well-written, with the
caveat that they keep switching notations. There are different conventions
in the different topics, but for a newbie it was a major headache.

Apparently he (Dr. Andrew Ng) is now doing them with the Kahn Academy video
style. It might work out to do a study group in the KA style where you watch
the lectures at home and then do the homework together.
