An organization meeting for forming an Austin chapter of the ACM Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (ACM SIGKDD) will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 7:00 pm at CoSpace. This was formerly advertised as Austin Hackers Dojo - Big Data Machine Learning. The meeting is open to the public and ACM membership is not required.
Cospace is at the southwest corner of Lamar and Anderson, in a brown brick L-shaped building called Lamar Gateway. Cospace is upstairs right in the crook of the L (there's an elevator and stairs).911 W Anderson Lane Suite 203 | Austin TX 78757.http://cospaceatx.com/contact-us/ The goal is to establish a professional group, under the auspices of ACM, Association of Computing Machinery, of Austin area software engineers, computer scientists, statisticians, and researchers who have an interest in machine learning, particularly big data machine learning. Big data machine learning algorithms are the cornerstone of many startup companies and at the leading edge of computational mathematics. One objective is to start a weekly hackers dojo to learn big data machine learning algorithms using Hadoop and Mahout to improve the skill set of the Austin software community. To form an ACM chapter we will need 10 people who are, or willing to become, both members of ACM and SIGKDD. We will need to elect a Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer. ACM will provide us with an IRS EIN as a non-profit organization. This will allow a tax write-off for organizations that make donations to the group. Agenda 1. Vision 2. Organization 3.
