You don't run "mvn pom.xml", just "mvn".

Downloaded trunk version of.. Mahout? It doesn't come with any JAR file.
Maven downloads all dependencies and that works.

You need to use 0.5 with the example code, not trunk.

But the error shows that you don't have the Mahout code in your class path.
You Java command has no classpath at all! Usually you are going to need to
add at least "-cp path/to/jars".
