Hi Lalit, Yes, of course there are lots of improvements in 1.7. That would be the whole point.
You don't have to upgrade in production until you are sure it works for you. You can build and run a local 1.7 MCF instance (which has its own Derby database) and just see if you can crawl using the new code.
