It should not work in plain PHP because Midgard extension for PHP
needs to communicate with mod_midgard Apache's module.

If you are planning to use PHP in both incarnations (as module for
Apache and as command line utility) I'd suggest you compile both
versions with different options for php configuration file php.ini.
