I had lost my root page as well. I took my backup of my original database
and made another copy that I edited. I changed my root page ID to another
number, and then edited all the records that refered to that particular
ID number. I believe most of it was in the page table.

I then removed all information from the dump file, except for the edited
stuff, and then imported it into the new midgard database. That 'returned'
my root page and the pages under it that refered to it.

The pages were there in the database... they just couldn't be 'found'.
Only the root page had been written over -- by snippets stuff.
