That should be big enough a machine.
Did this happen directly after login, or after a specific action?
I only once experience a timeout, and that was
when I was converting images on a database that holds some 100.000
records.
If you can reproduce this problem, set 'LogLevel debug' in httpd.conf and
enable logging in mysql. See if you find something that could point to the
problem, and send it to the list.
