hello
An installation of first midgard instance inside astrium GmbH has been completetd. It for internal use for tracking user calls in combination with new events of my solaris administration of german aerospace. It's just for intranet and therefor cannot be seen outside for a while. However my privat external midgard side http://insight.kn-bremen.de/Guild (no solaris) is still ready for logins. The Solaris installation took about a week last week. I tried to reuse Martin Hierlings solaris packages. Today the UTF translation required another link again and another link was missing under /usr/local/lib/php/extensions. Though I'm still using Martins gigantic apache package I already used my databases that usually have to be used from his distribution. I also used my own compilation of php4 and mod_midgard. The packages as they are on his site still don't run because of a missing modul called mod_auth_pam that had to be inserted from apache's site. The list of missing links is still long and especially UTF conversion is again different on solaris 8. Martin and me had a small discussion about the sense and meaning of a binary distribution for solaris/midgard. While Martin still heads for a package all in one and out of a box I wouldnot recommend this way. I'd rather work on another distribution that should be as close to the linux/midgard distribution as possible. Therefor the packages should include sources and rather depend on the gnu-compiler than running without. That means that the packages should be equally named and packed like the linux packages for midgard. The advantage would be better support from the midgard lists and better development for different and future solaris releases. bye, dieter -- Kind regards Dieter Heine Systemadministration Unix Astrium GmbH Raumfahrt Bremen EMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fax: 49 421 539 5698 Phone: 49 421 539 4989 User Help Desk Astrium Friedrichshafen Phone (office Bremen): on request --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
