Well, not Midgard, but the binary install of Midgard may or may not work when upgrading those packages. Especially PHP has been known to make incompatible changes between releases. I've had differing luck in the past with upgrading binaries while not upgrading midgard binary packages. Alexander uses mandrake (right, Alexander?) so maybe he can brew new packages.
