phpmole uses the php-cgi (or php-cli in phpcvs), not the apache module, so you can carry on using the old midgard-php as an apache module, the only snag you may find is that if you install the php-4.1.1 dev. package (needed for php-gtk), then you may have problems building new modules for the old php apache module.
