After I had sent the email it occured to me that I could mount a directory on a file server and serve the images that way. Is the connection pretty solid or do you run into problems where the connection between the machines is lost? What happens if you reboot the file server? Will the web server reconnect itself or do you have to take additional steps to get the machines to reconnect to each other?
