I'd say that's a serious issue, but not installation related. I'll do

It's not installation related at all. On a debian box, installation
itself ought the be very easy since I use Debian myself. We even have
packages these days. Things not working is a problem of course.

Could be the mgd_eval issue that was discussed earlier. eval->mgd_eval
is now back.

Try the updated midgard-php4 and midgard-lib from todays CVS (just
checked in this morning), and make sure to configure midgard-lib with
--with-eval-hack.
