I did what you say about php and I downgrade it to 4.0.6.
I reinstalled midgard but now I see an error when I tried to install 
midgard-php and run mkall I saw the following error:

You should update your `aclocal.m4' by running aclocal.
./mkall: ./configure: Permission denied

I have installed automake 1.4_p5-44, autoconf 2.52-44 and libtool 1.4.1-11.
