Hello Midgard Community.

I've just tagged the first (and hopefully last) Release Candidate for
Midgard 1.4.3 in CVS. Upload to the Midgard Website follows soon
(Armand: could you please uploade the tarballs?). For now you can get
the Tarballs from [1].

  [1] http://users.nehmer.net/~classic/midgard-1.4.3/

RedHat and Debian Packages will not be created for the RC1.

Changes include:

- - lots and lots of bugfixes
- - A new parser that resides in midgard-lib and works for everything
- - New data packages with Asgard 1.4.2
- - Default Parameters that should maximize backwards-compatibility for
all parts of the Midgard Framework.

This release does _not_ include:

- - mod_midgard-preparser, since there is at lease one blocking bug in it

Please test this release as far as it is possible and report any bugs
at [2]. Note, that Midgard is currently in feature freeze until all
major open bugs are fixed, so if you have any feature requests, you can
file them, but I won't gurantee you how long it will take to get them
done. Contributions are welcome of course. If there is no blocker in
the current code, I will officially release 1.4.3 next Friday.

Known bugs:

- - Repligard's CDATA Encoding (current default) fails, when texts
contain
the element ]]> and there are problems in the binary-safe mode of
  Repligard (Bug #73)
- - There are still some very strange segfaults somewhere between Apache,
PHP and Midgard. Emiliano began to track them down, but since he is
currently out of the queue, I fear that this rather nasty bug has to
wait until he is back up. (Bugs #26 and #68)
- - The extended variable Syntax does not work cleanly, because quotes
are
not generated by the parser. (Bug #75)

These bugs will not be solved in 1.4.3 because rather extensive work
seems to be neccessary to solve these. But we do what we can.

Bugtesting Request:

For Bug #75 there is a Bugfix in current CVS, the only difference
between the official RC1 and CVS. Contrary to what I've told 10 minutes
ago on midgard-dev (*Evilgrin*) this fix is _not_ part of the RC1, but
I would be _really_ glad if someone could take a run at it over the
weekend (I won't be at home).

So long everybody, have fun with testing ;-)

Live long and prosper!
Torben Nehmer
