If you want to try php however  -From reports I've seen on php-dev and 
php-bugs :

You should use apache from cvs and php 4.3 from cvs..  
- forget trying to use the 'release versions - there are far too many 
bugs/incompatibilities',

If you report bugs on this to the php-bug system - please make sure you 
are using cvs versions of both.. - otherwise you are likely to be ignored :)
