The good news: the issue I quoted from the Mozilla faq doesn't seem to harm us. The bad news: I have no idea what does, then. It doesn't seem to find cpp, but it can find gcc... and gcc is supposed to be able to as cpp, and configure should actually *prefer* it to plain calling cpp. I'm at a bit of a loss.
