In Nadmin/Aegir editor there should be a button "add image" which you
can use to have the editor to insert the correct path.

image serving pages discussed long ago?!
Do not forget about "magic" attachments serving , when attachments
are attached to pages. You may create subpage 'atts' and simply
call <IMG src="/atts/filename"> for file which was attached to this page.
It doesn't require any additional coding.....

Yes but the gallery attaches the images to topics...
