Aegir CMS 1.0 RC1 released

POZNAN, ESPOO, Jan 27th 2003 -- The Aegir CMS development team has
released the first release candidate of the Aegir CMS Open Source
Content Management System version 1.0.

Aegir CMS is a full-featured Content Management System built on the
popular Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (LAMP) platform powered by the
Midgard application server.

Aegir CMS is derived from the succesful Nadmin Studio codebase. The
application is licensed under the Artistic License-derived "HKLC
Nadmin Studio Interface" License.

Aegir CMS's key features include:

    * MS Word -compatible content editor
      - Easy publishing environment for non-technical users
      - Requires MS Internet Explorer 5.01+ or Mozilla 1.3+
    * Staging/live setup
      - Prepare you site changes in staging environment, test
        and finally publish to live site when ready
      - Use scheduled publication or publish to site immediately
    * Multi-company hosting (ASP) support
      - Each company is assigned to their own virtual database
      - User interface can be customized to support ASP
        provider's brand
      - ChangeLogs system provides easy way to publish system
        notices
    * Flexible templating and layout system
      - Layout templates can be generated from multiple
        elements gathered from the site style and the page
        tree
    * Full Midgard Content Management framework
      - Easy and documented object-oriented PHP programming interface
      - Separation of content, layout and site logic
      - Efficient content management using a hierarchical topic
        and article tree
      - Flexible attachment of metadata and files to all content
        objects
      - Support for different languages and character sets including
        Unicode
      - Replication and packaging utilities

New features in Aegir CMS 1.0 RC1:

    * New translations
      - Aegir CMS is now available in Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish,
        French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian and Swedish
    * Mozilla-compatible WYSIWYG editing 
      - Aegir CMS now includes an alternative editor, "Simple" that
        works with Mozilla 1.3+ browsers
      - Editor can be selected from person preferences, MSHTML, Simple
        or none
    * PHP 4.3 and Midgard Lite compatibility
      - Aegir CMS now works also with PHP 4.3, and the Midgard Lite
        implementation of the Content Management Framework
      - Aegir CMS is bundled in the Midgard Lite 0.8.1 release
    * New Example site
      - Aegir CMS ships with a new example site, "Simple Dynamic Site"
        that can be easily used as basis of a dynamic, content-driven
        web site powered by Aegir CMS and Midgard
    * Aegir CMS release now includes many bundled add-on modules,
      including
      - Member: Newsletter and Member database interface
      - Schedule: Group calendar
      - Gallery: Centralized image archive
      - Webstats: Integrated interface to Webalizer statistics
    * Lots of bug fixes

The Aegir CMS project

The Aegir CMS development project aims to further improve the Nadmin
Studio codebase to provide the most versatile and user-friendly
Content Management System built on an Open Source framework.
