TownPortal 0.1 released
ESPOO, Feb 7th 2003 -- The TownPortal development team has released
the first alpha release of TownPortal, a free portal system for
villages and local communities.
The alpha release is mostly feature-complete, but lots of tuning will
still be needed for installation and user interfaces. Midgard
experience is required for installing and using the package.
Current features of TownPortal include:
* Community's generic information
o Full dynamic, content-driven site structure
o Manageable using Aegir CMS
* Home pages for local companies, clubs and families
o Simple, integrated content management interfaces
o News, photo galleries and event calendar
* Personalized features for users
o Automatic user registration
o Subscribing to events and event calendars
* Multilingual support
o Built-in Finnish and English user interfaces
o Localization tool for translating to new languages
* Midgard Content Management Framework
o Runs on both Midgard and Midgard Lite
o Fully configurable portal layout

About TownPortal
TownPortal is being developed for the IT Village Package of The
Digital North Denmark project by Nemein Oy, the Finnish Midgard
solution provider.
The application is built on the popular Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP
(LAMP) platform powered by the Midgard application server and is
available under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
