I assume you mean 3.23.25a? 3.23.x has been the current version for quite a while. The latest is 3.23.56 so that's a considerable number of versions behind. Same for the 4.0.x series, that's currently at 4.0.12 which has just been deemed production worthy. Previously it was considered "gamma" and before that "beta". I'd assume 4.0.1 was considered "alpha" and far from production quality...
