With Zope you'll have to learn their templating language(s). In order to do any serious customisation you'll need to dig into perl. As far as I can tell they have a very mature well documents application framework built by serious coders for any novice. Midgard on the other hand 'extends' PHP so it's a lot easier for a web programmer to mess around with--without having to retool. Midgard users and developers are mostly the same group.
For what it's worth. That's my 2c.

Hi,
I'm looking at tools to build a business web application. I know PHP, I've looked at Zope, and was wondering if someone could tell me the advantage of using PHP+Midgard over plain PHP or Zope?
Thank you Fred.
