We experience this problem too. One part of this problem is not MSIE but
Acrobat Reader Plugin-specific. It trys to do byte-ranged-requests to
download only that parts of the PDF that are really neccessary. Midgard
does not yet support this, it even lacks the Accept-Ranges: none Header
line which _should_ prohibit this. I know of several Acrobat Plugin
installations that even ignore this header entirely. I haven't been able
to track this problem really down, my current solution is either building
PDFs that do not support byte-serving ("non-optimized" is it called if I
remember right) or moving the PDFs to the regular Document Root to be
served by Apache itself.
