I suppose you're using MSHTML editor for editing?
In that case I wouldn't be too surprised since it will
effectively ruin PHP-code (substitutes special characters
with HTML-entities).

If you're using plain text field then there's something horribly wrong.
Sometimes Mozilla looses a lot of content when submitting
very long pages but this was way back around Mozilla 1.0 and
hasn't happened to me for a long time.

It's a good idea to store code (PHP, JS, you-name-it)
somewhere else than with the content. Place doesn't matter
but if you need it in a lot of places I would put it in style.
