Try to see if you get anything with mgd_errstr(). Use it immediately after calling mgd_update_article_created().
If nothing comes out, it may be that the function is broken... :(

If the function really is broken, you could just update the records by hand. Either directly from the DB or by PHP script with MySQL queries.
