It has - the datamanager (and thus any component that uses it,
de.linkm.taviewer e.g.) can store data in any field you want. It the
schema you can define a "location", which can be for example "content",
"abstract", "extra1" (for shorttext), and "parameter" / "attachment" -
once you defined that, you don't need to bother. You can access all
contents in the style (and in the Authoring Interface of course),
without knowing where they are stored.
With this you can build article types with as many fields as you need.

This whole thing is not documented very well, there is a lot of work to
be done...
