GUENZBURG, 2004-05-13 -- The Midgard Project has released version 1.3.0
of the Midgard Components Framework (MidCOM). MidCOM provides a
framework for creating reusable and configurable components for web
applications using the Midgard Content Management Framework.

MidCOM development was started by Linksystem Muenchen in March 2002,
and it has since evolved into a stable and production-proven platform.
MidCOM is available under GNU LGPL.

Major changes since MidCOM 1.2.0:

Core:
- - An interface to serve snippet code fields like files has been added.
JavaScript output interface code is now available outside AIS. Note,
that the old JScript serving interface in midcom_admin_content will
be
deprecated with MidCOM 1.4.0 in favor of this interface.
- - Improved the DBM Caching engine: Should solve moste cache corruption
problems as well as it now has is aware of the current language
  settings.
- - Introduced an alternative filesystem-only based cachinge enigne
(does
  not yet have language-support).

Datamanager:
- - Improved object creation support: The storage object can now be
created on demand, which should get rid of most of the dummy objects
currently beeing left. The de.linkm.taviewer component has a
reference
  implementation for this feature.
- - NemeinRCS support
- - New unixdate datatype
- - DHTML Calendar widget
- - Explicit form display interface available: Display the edit widget
of
any datamanager schema field wherever you want it.
- - Decoupled Datamanger from AIS (note, that this is not yet complete,
but it already works for most general cases).
- - Image Datatype now removes ICC profiles from uploaded files.

Navigation Access Point System (NAP):
- - View this page / Edit this page helper functions are now available.

For a complete list of changes, please see the CHANGES file in the
MidCOM distribution. There were several bugfixes. Upgrading from 1.2.0
systems to 1.3.0 should be quite easy, as there have been no API
changes that introduce any incompatibility.

MidCOM requires working PHP 4.1 or later with the iconv extension and
Midgard 1.4.4 or later. In addition, Aegir 1.0.1 is recommended for
using the MidCOM Site Template package.
