I'm trying to evaluate Midgard to see if it will meet my needs. I am operating a small hosting environment (RHEL + Plesk 7) and I am looking for a CMS that meets many of the same functional requirements as Dreamweaver + Contribute. I want to be in control of the overall structure of the site, and the page layout, but I want users to be able to add/edit content without my involvement. I'd prefer to find a PHP-based solution for all of the obvious reasons. I'm not interested in a lot of the "community portal" CMS systems (they're ugly, and don't give you much control over page composition), and some of the more complex systems (e.g Typo3) are much more complex than I need.
Is there a demo site of Midgard I can take a look at? I couldn't find one when I looked that actually worked.
Because of the installation complexity of the full version of Midgard, I chose to install the 0.8.1/Lite release. It took a little wrangling to get php_basedir properly configured with Plesk, but I finally got all of the errors to stop.
However now when I point my browser at http://midgard.briansp.com/ I get no output (just HTML and BODY tags). I turned on debugging, and the results are at http://midgard.briansp.com/debug.html, but they're not very illuminating.
Now one thing that wasn't clear is that the .htaccess file that comes with Midgard-Lite redirects all requests to /index.php, which doesn't exist in my distribution. So I changed that to /midgard.php. Was I supposed to create an index.php file? The install docs are very sketchy.
