Hi, Robert!

I already replied on #midgard, but here is the same info as it could
be useful to others as well.

After well over a year of trying one thing or another - finally, I have been able to successfully install Midgard on my debian server.

Cool!

If you're running "testing" or "unstable" this should be quite simple
by using apt-get:
http://www.midgard-project.org/documentation/installation/distros/debian.html

(Note: the same DEBs reputedly also work with Ubuntu, although you need
to install the dialog package first)

The - empty - , pretty well default site is now up at: http://www.privaterra.org:8001

Ok. And you'll see the "Welcome to Midgard" page in: http://www.privaterra.org:8001/midgard/

The "Getting started" instructions can be found from there:

"To get started with Midgard, you need to do the following:

    * Log in to an administrative interface
    * Create a new organization
    * Create a new website for the organization
    * Create the style for the organization's website
    * Log in to the website and start creating content"

Apart from the default install, i have been able to change the default password and install the Town Portal template. What to do next - don't know, and would appreciate any help, recommendations, to guides or tutorials that are online to help me - slowly - migrate over from the other CMS's that i'm using (mostly tikiwiki & postnuke) to Midgard.

You could start with these tutorial slides: http://www.nehmer.net/~bergie/oscom3/ http://www.nehmer.net/~bergie/south-africa-2004/

Let me know if you have any questions after reading them ;-)

I'd be more than happy to document the process on a blog , any suggestions as to where i could post my journey into midgard...

You can basically blog it using whatever software you like. As you already have Midgard running that could be a good alternative.

To create a blog there, log into a Midgard site and click "Create
page", the create a subtopic handled by the "News listing
(de.linkm.newsticker)" component. Newsticker has the needed
blogging features like an RSS feed (in /topicname/rss.xml) and
MetaWeblog API support.

Once you have the blog running please let me know and I'll add
you to Planet Midgard:
