I tried to compile the 1.5.0 but it don't compile I got "checking for library containing g_string_new... no configure: error: You need glib" and I have all glib dev packages.
You could try to compile 1.6.2 --without-multilang...

Is it a big problem to try spider? I would like to locate the problem. Fixing stuff for Nadmin is impossible for me.
Fixing Nadmin should not be required. Upgrading to Aegir might make some sense too...
