Most probably it's expat. Expat is quite fickle when it comes to this. Do you 
use utf-8?

Start by checking if you db is corrupt. I once spent 6 months blaming midgard 
when the problem was a corrupt db.

You're exporting the whole db here, why?

I usually do this when I'm moving a db, also for backuppurposes.
