Sorry for the late answer.

The system is a debian-stable, with some unstable packages. Apache is 1.3.33. Switching to Apache2 would be difficult..

What distro? Which Apache ( 1.3.? ) ? Looks like there is serious bug in midgard-apache1. Can you switch to Apache2?
