Thanks for the reply. I'm only one OS stable version behind on OpenBSD
so I would be surprised that the C compiler is old. However it is
possible I suppose. I have no idea how I would update this. Where is
this mgd_eval_string? I don't see any file called that in my
../Midgard_AllinOne/midgard-php4-1.6.3. Any more details would be
greatly appreciated.

hi,

your problem with midgard-php4 is that you are using a rather old C
compiler, which cannot handle variable declarations that are not at the
beginning of a block.
So you need to move all variable declarations to the beginning of the
function in mgd_eval_string.
