Check AIS. 2.0.x and upwards show the version number in the footer.

No.

First, it is referring to DB MidCOM installations, which implies that all things
that you look for are in the Database, not in the filesystem. This is why I'm
talking about "snippet dirs" there. This is a safety measure in this case, to
avoid the problem you ran into. If you rename the main snippet directories of
the Database MidCOM installation suffixing them with _old, you ensure that
MidCOM cannot load that snippets accidentially, producing an error instead. So
go for your favourite Admin Interface and rename the root snippet dirs mentioned
above accordingly.
