the problem was that the creator of the article has somehow been removed.
After fixing the creator manually in mysql to an existing person-id all runs
fine now with aegir and MidCOM.

Take a look at the snippet in question (lib/rcs_functions) I think it
has a debug paramet you can set to see what happens inside it.
