About your issue, if you are not using any entity classes at the moment you can use the following command: mvn hibernate3:hbm2ddl -Djava.version=1.4 Now about the problem, you say this happens with different projects, do they all throw the same error saying the culprit is the javax/servlet/http/HttpSessionBindingListener class??
